Vice Lords

Almighty Vice Lord Nation, or AVLN, is an African American street and prison gang in Chicago, one of the oldest gangs in Chicago, Illinois.

The total number of its members is estimated at 35 thousand to 50 thousand people.

Almighty Vice Lord Nation is also one of the founding members of the People Nation prison alliance.

In 2021, forty members of Almighty Vice Lord Nation were formally charged with crimes such as murder, robbery, assault, and other violent crimes, as well as drug-related crimes that occurred over the past 10 years.

In 2022, one of the Vice Lords ‘ leaders was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Conservative Vice Lords

Since the 1960s, some street and prison gangs have tried to shed their criminal identities and mobilized youth for social change.

The Conservative Vice Lords (CVLN) were registered as a non-profit organization and received funding from large foundations to organize youth, protest unfair housing and working conditions, start small businesses, and fight for peace and racial equality.

Nevertheless, even today, the leaders of both the Almighty Vice Lord Nation and the Conservative Vice Lords are involved in high-profile cases.

For example, in 2017, twelve members of the Concrete Cartel , which is considered a “militant unit” of the Conservative Vice Lords, were charged with federal racketeering under RICO, robberies of businesses and pharmacies, and drug trafficking.

In 2019, following a three-week trial involving 74 witnesses and more than 120 pieces of evidence, a federal jury convicted five members of the Conservative Vice Lords and the Concrete Cartel of conspiracy to engage in racketeering, multiple armed robberies of pharmacies, and conspiracy to traffic drugs.

Also in 2019, six leaders of the Conservative Vice Lords and Concrete Cartel were convicted under RICO for robbing businesses and pharmacies, possessing firearms, and trafficking in drugs. In all cases, the organization was said to have different areas of responsibility or roles (leaders, senior managers, bodyguards, those responsible for creating a positive image, etc.). Members reached higher levels of the hierarchy through acts of violence, including but not limited to shootings, robberies, and drug trafficking. The cartel encourages robberies of businesses, mainly pharmacies, to obtain opioids and other controlled substances to enrich themselves and their members.

Також у 2019 році шість лідерів Conservative Vice Lords та Concrete Cartel були засуджені за законом RICO за пограбування підприємств і аптек, зберігання вогнепальної зброї та торгівлю наркотиками.  В усіх випадках йшлося про, що в організації є різні сфери відповідальності або ролі (керівники, менеджери вищого рівня, охоронці, особи, відповідальні за створення позитивного іміджу тощо). Члени досягали вищих рівні ієрархії через акти насильства, включаючи, але не обмежуючись, стрілянину, пограбування та торгівлю наркотиками. Картель заохочує пограбування підприємств, головним чином аптек, для отримання опіоїдів та інших контрольованих речовин, щоб збагатити себе та своїх членів.
